  • The bell is rung as a sign of hope, whenever a cancer patient completes their treatment

A bell has been installed in the outpatients wing of the Axarquía hospital as a symbol of hope and celebration for cancer survivors.

The idea was first started in 1996 when Admiral Irve Le Moyne gave the bell from his ship to the MD Anderson centre in Houston, Texas, to thank staff after finishing his course of radiotherapy and fighting the disease.
