Vélez-Málaga town hall has completed work to clean up and repair the Los Toscanos Phoenician settlement, which is situated by the Río Vélez. Signposting and information placards have also been updated.
The work follows complaints from local residents and cultural groups that the council had abandoned the site. They claimed that the settlement receives visitors on a daily basis.
In October 2020, Vélez-Málaga joined the Spanish network of Phoenician routes, which forms part of the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe programme.
The town hall hopes to start up its guided tours of local Phoenician sites again soon.
