A British man, 79, has been arrested by police on the Costa de Sol after he accelerated away from a police checkpoint and sparked a high-speed chase.

The events unfolded last week in Benalmádena when one of the police officers had to jump out of the way to avoid being hit by the wanted man’s vehicle.

According to SUR sources, the pensioner carried out different evasive manoeuvres in order to prevent the police from catching up with him. When they did finally stop him they found that he was using someone else's driving licence and, additionally, had illegally modified the car’s number plate.

The officers arrested him on charges of document falsification, resistance and disobedience, as well as for reckless driving.

However, the British man still hid a secret which was likely the motive for him trying to evade the National Police control. When the officers entered his data into the police database the 79-year-old’s details were flagged with an alert.

The man had an arrest warrant against him and faces a prison sentence for drug trafficking.
