Police mount early morning drug trafficking raids on the Costa del Sol

  • Some 200 Guardia Civil officers have made searches and arrests in Marbella, Mijas and Benalmádena as well as in Cadiz and Granada provinces

The Guardia Civil has launched a new drug trafficking operation early this Wednesday morning, 7 April with raids in Marbella, Mijas and Benalmádena on the Costa del Sol, as well as in the towns of Ítrabo (Granada) and Tarifa (Cadiz).

Operation Bacalá is directed against an international hashish trafficking network that is headed by a Swedish national. For this reason, the latest raids have been coordinated with Europol and police in Scandinavian countries and France.

More than 200 officers from Guardia Civil headquarters in Algeciras (Cadiz), Malaga and Granada have been deployed and dozens of arrests have reportedly been made.
