A man was left seriously injured on Monday night (5 April) after a massive fight involving gangs of young men in Malaga city centre. After the emergency services stabilised the unconscious victim he was rushed to hospital with a serious head injury.

The brawl involved several groups of young men who clashed in the middle of the street near the Plaza Mitjana just after 10pm and involved ‘mainly foreign nationals’ according to SUR sources.

The National Police are investigating the exact circumstances in which the man suffered the injuries but one theory is that he hit his head against a wall.

Locals have complained of similar events in the area and the latest incident was just a few metres from where a young Malaga man, Pablo Podadera, died after being hit while mediating in a fight in April 2017. The retrial for his death began this Monday, after Andalucía’s Superior Court of Justice declared the initial trial - in which the defendants were sentenced to three years in prison - invalid.
