The Abindarráez cultural association has brought the German Stolpersteine project to Cártama. Meaning 'stumbling blocks' in English, and they commemorate those deported and killed by the Nazis.

This is the first time the monuments, which have been created by Gunter Demnig, have been installed anywhere in Andalucía, although they first arrived in Spain in 2015.

The Stolpersteine are cement cubes bearing a plaque showing the names of the people they are commemorating.

There will be three in Cártama: Francisco Gómez Cañete (1912-1941), Juan Gómez Mancilla (1918-1942) and Manuel Carvajal Vázquez (1910-1941), all of whom were born in the municipality and were imprisoned in the Mauthausen concentration camp.
