The Salón Varietés theatre in Fuengirola has announced that its fundraising drive to get the doors back open currently stands at just under 18,000 euros.
The campaign, Save Our Salon: keep our theatre alive, began last year, after the theatre fell into financial difficulty caused by restrictions enforced to combat the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. The campaign target was set at 30,000 euros, the amount needed to keep the building maintained and to meet other financial obligations the theatre has incurred while closed. A spokesperson explained that in order to operate fully, they need to raise around 250,000 euros every year.
The fund has now hit the 58 per cent mark and organisers are hopeful they will raise the full amount. So far, the appeal has received several large donations, including 2,000 euros from FOTA and 1,300 euros raised during a sponsored walk organised by The Arts Society Costa del Sol.
However, the board have pointed out that there is still a long way to go and are asking for people to organise events.
