Police are looking for a 26-year-old man on suspicion of beating his 16-year-old ex-girlfriend in El Palo, Malaga and leaving her badly injured and lying in a ditch.

The victim's family said the young woman and the man had a four-month relationship, which the girl had ended.

On Saturday, 27 February, at around 5.30pm the girl was in the street with some friends in the La Pelusa area of Malaga city when the man appeared.

Allegedly, he began to insult and threaten her before snatching her mobile phone and walking away. She followed him to get it back and, according to the girl’s relatives, the man began to beat her at the point where a small tunnel runs under the N-340.

The family claim that he hit her on the head with a stick, after which he allegedly left her lying in a ditch. However, the teenager managed to make her way to the road where she was found in the gutter by a man who took her to the headquarters of the El Palo Local Police.

The young woman was transferred to the Regional hospital where she spent 24 hours being treated for her injuries before she was discharged. “It is a miracle that she is still alive,” said her relatives.

The National Police has taken charge of the investigation to clarify what happened and they are now trying to locate the man who is described as 26 years old, dark haired with a beard and numerous tattoos on his body and 1.70 metres tall.
