Marbella town council has this week given approval to the building permits needed for Primark to begin work on its new shop at La Cañada shopping centre.
Council spokesman Félix Romero explained that the permits correspond to "three premises with a total of 5,640 square metres of floor space and a budget of 6,563,925 euros". The deadline for completion of the work is 120 working days, so if everything goes as expected, "it will be a reality before the end of the year", he said.
The arrival of the store has had to overcome several obstacles. The first attempt was in 2014 when Primark asked for a 6,500-square-metre space inside the shopping centre. However, when this proved impossible, the construction of a mezzanine floor was suggested.
This however was blocked under the terms of the town's PGOU master plan. Now though, several years later, the PGOU has been modified to allow the construction of the mezzanine provided that the external structure of the building isn't modified.
