José Arcadio D.N. – nicknamed 'El Melillero' - who is the main suspect in the Cártama acid attack on his ex-girlfriend Sandra and her friend Cristina in January - has appeared before the courts in Malaga and been found guilty of beating another previous girlfriend in a case dating back to 2014.

The judge of the criminal court number 13 in Malaga has sentenced El Melillero to seven months in prison after delivering his verdict in one of the nine cases that the 26-year-old man has pending.

El Melillero is already being held in prison awaiting trial for the horrific acid attack on two young women in January.

The court heard that the events took place on 14 August 2016 when José Arcadio D.N, who met the young woman in a Marbella nightclub, punched her “with the intention of causing her harm”, after which he threw her to the ground and grabbed her by the hair to drag her down the steps of the premises.

The victim managed to escape, but El Melillero caught up with her, throwing her on the bonnet of a car and delivering punches to the rest of her body.

Immediately after the attack, the young woman went to the Las Albarizas health centre in Marbella, where the doctors examined her and detailed her injuries.

After studying the evidence the judge found José Arcadio D.N. guilty of the assault and sentenced him to seven months in prison, as well as giving him a two-year ban on approaching or communicating with this ex-partner, with whom he has a son.
