In a new blow to large-scale drug trafficking in the Malaga province the Guardia Civil have arrested eight people and seized 1,535 kilogrammes of hashish.
The operation began after a semi-rigid boat of the type often used to transport hashish in the Strait of Gibraltar was detected near the coast.
The crew of the boat made for a beach in Nerja where one person was detained and seven more were later rounded up.
Officers seized the semi-rigid boat that the gang were using to transport the drugs, as well as 24 bales of hashish.
Twenty plastic barrels, of the type used to refuel the boat, were found to have false bottoms and contained hashish.
In total 1,535 kilograms of drugs were recovered.
