"It looked like a bomb had exploded," said one of the first people to arrive at the scene after a grey Volkswagen minivan smashed into the wall of a house in Malaga at around midnight on Sunday.

A young man lost his life in the crash in Calle Lope de Vega, in the El Atabal district of the city.

It seems that the driver lost control and the vehicle left the road, mounted the pavement and smashed into the property.

According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle passed at high-speed heading in the direction of Puerto de la Torre in front of the Burger King fast-food restaurant.

"We saw it go by at full speed and right after we heard the crash", said two young people who had just left work and were among the first to arrive on the scene.

Minutes later, the emergency services arrived and cordoned off the street. But they could not save him.

The young man, 21, died at the scene following the violent impact.
