A 30-year-old Dutch woman, wanted under a European arrest warrant by the authorities in the Netherlands for cybercrimes, has been arrested by Spanish police on the Costa del Sol.
National Police officers stopped the woman on the N-340 at a coronavirus travel mobility restriction check point in Estepona.
While verifying her identity they discovered she was wanted in connection with cybercrimes and played a prominent role in a criminal organisation that specialised in large-scale phishing between December 2016 and October 2017.
It is alleged that the criminal network sent bulk emails, claiming to be on behalf of a bank, with a link to a fraudulent website. On this page, the victims were asked for personal information that the group then allegedly used to access their accounts, carry out unauthorised money transactions.
