Police are searching for the occupants of a white Mercedes car with British registration plates in connection with the fatal stabbing in the car park of the Diana shopping centre in Estepona on Wednesday.

Witnesses described the man who attacked the 19-year-old victim, as tall, blond and stocky and that he was apparently accompanied by a woman in the right-hand-drive vehicle.

The victim's name was Ulrich, who lived in an apartment in Las Acacias, Estepona, with his parents and two siblings, a sister aged 22 and a younger brother who is just three.

His death appears to have been the result of an absurd traffic dispute - at least according to the police investigation - as the victim had apparently reproached his assailant for driving too fast and almost knocking him down.

The driver apparently braked suddenly and got out of the car. Witnesses reported hearing shouting just before he apparently produced a knife and stabbed Ulrich in the chest. The blade reached his heart and he died at the scene.

The incident occurred at around half past two on Wednesday afternoon, and was witnessed by numerous passers-by. it appears that the victim was on his way home from the local supermarket and was carrying plastic bags when he was attacked.

The victim managed to cry for help but nothing could be done. A client at a nearby veterinary clinic ran out with dressings to cover the wound. Other passers-by called for local residents to take them towels. Among them was Ulrich's mother.

Ulrich's friends put a photographs of their football team and lit candles on Thursday in the area of the stabbing. Ulrich was well-liked in the neighbourhood. Local shops have put out tins to collect funds to help the family pay for the funeral.

"He was a good, polite lad," said one neighbour, who added that Ulrich worked in a cinema ticket office but was temporarily out of work due to the pandemic.
