Benalmádena town hall has given the green light to a proposal to turn the Cortijo de la Comba in Arroyo de la Miel into a new arts and cultural centre. The initiative, which was proposed by the local cultural sector, was passed during a recent council meeting and was backed by the local opposition group, Partido Popular.
The new centre, to be named the Palacio de las Artes de Benalmádena, will include a 400 to 600 capacity theatre, a conference hall and classrooms, rehearsal and dance studios and an area for temporary exhibitions.
"We support this motion to create a great palace of the arts in Benalmádena, because our municipality lacks a large space where cultural shows and events can be staged. This will add to the attractiveness of our town, especially at a time when the cultural sector has been badly affected by the current climate," said Socialist mayor Víctor Navas.
