A local environmental group is calling for volunteers to help protect turtle eggs buried on Cabopino beach before they hatch in October.
When a loggerhead turtle laid her eggs on busy Los Boliches beach in Fuengirola in early August, there was little chance of their survival and them hatching successfully.
In keeping with environmental practice, officials moved the 60 plus eggs to the beach by Cabopino port with the help of the Pro Dunas Association, which campaigns to protect the coastal area around Marbella.
A special round-the-clock watch has now been put on the site. Volunteers are being sought until 4 October, but if the eggs still haven't hatched by then, a new plan will be put in place until 15 October.
