The Axarquía's answer to the Caminito del Rey is expected to open at the beginning of October, according to the provincial authority's representative for Environment, National Tourism and Climate Change, Cristobál Ortega.

The footpath, which includes a 46-metre-long hanging bridge 50 metres above the River Almanchares between the villages of Canillas de Aceituno and Sedella, will form part of Malaga's Gran Senda long-distance path.

Due to the restricted access to the site, which is in an area known as El Saltillo, in the Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama mountain range, construction materials have been flown in by helicopter and workers have built parts of the pathway while suspended by ropes.

Ortega said last weekend that tests would be carried out on the bridge and pathways over the coming weeks. Once open, the Caminito del Rey de la Axarquía, as it is becoming known, will be free to access.
