Homes evacuated in Benahavís fire that damaged three hectares on Sunday evening

Several homes were evacuated on Sunday evening after fire broke out just before 6pm on land between the Gazules del Sol residential estate and the Guadamina river, close to the A-7175 that connects Benahavís with the coast.

The wind caused the blaze to spread in the direction of San Pedro Alcántara, affecting around three hectares of scrubland.

A number of properties were evacuated in Valle del Sol, where the flames damaged several houses and a warehouse, according to official sources.

Thirty firefighters from the Infoca forest fire unit were sent in to tackle the blaze, along with two helicopters, among other vehicles and a reinforcement team.

The fire was under control soon after 10pm.

Fire in Olvera

Firefighters were still working on Monday morning to control a forest fire that broke out on Sunday evening in Olvera (Cadiz province) and also affected part of the municipality of Cañete la Real (Malaga).

Around 100 firefighters were working to control the blaze, which was "stabilised" at 12 noon on Monday, as work continued to bring the fire under control.

An initial estimation offered by Infoca puts the area damaged by the Olvera fire at 450 hectares
