A 50-year-old man from Ceuta is in police custody after he required an emergency operation to remove 47 hashish pellets from his stomach.

The individual was rushed to the Hospital de Alta Resolución (HARE) in Benalmádena last Wednesday as a result of severe stomach pain and cold sweats.

The initial X-ray showed the presence of 47 small bags which the patient admitted contained hashish that he was transporting as a so-called 'mule'. The National Police in Torremolinos were informed and have taken charge of the investigation.

The man had to be transported to the Hospital Clínico where he was operated on. Once recovered he will be expected to make a statement.
