  • Skeletons facing Mecca have been found on the site of the old Andalucía cinema in the city's Calle Victoria

New parts of Yabal Faruh, the largest Islamic necropolis found in Spain, with an estimated area of more than 230,000 square metres, are still being discovered beneath Malaga city.

Several funeral structures and burial sites that belonged to the necropolis (and in which skeletons can be seen orientated towards Mecca) have been found during excavations carried out for the construction of a new Room Mate hotel on the site of the old Cine Andalucía cinema, beside Calle Victoria.
