Torremolinos town hall has announced the cancellation of almost all of the large-scale events planned for July, August and September. Suspended events include San Juan, the Festival of Santa María del Mar, the Latin Music Festival, the open-air summer cinema season, and the Romería de San Miguel, one of the biggest pilgrimages in Spain.

The decision has been taken in order to prevent further outbreaks of Covid-19. The suspension of these events will save the town hall around 400,000 euros, which, as councillor for Culture David Tejeiro expressed, "will be used to bolster the aid given to the most vulnerable".

The councillor went on to say that the town hall is currently studying the possibility of adapting events such as the procession of the Virgen del Carmen and the Feria de San Miguel. The councillor said he hoped that these popular festivities could be "scaled down", although he stressed that a final decision was yet to be made.

However, the town hall has given permission for more than 100 smaller events to be held in various outside locations in Torremolinos. These events, which will be monitored, will include exhibitions, shows, street theatre and classical music, jazz and flamenco recitals.
