Searches for flights to Malaga between 5 and 11 June, coinciding with the Costa del Sol's move from Phase 2 to Phase 3 of lockdown easing, increased by 70%, said the CEO of the area's tourist authority, Margarita del Cid, this week.
The figure was "encouraging", she said.
"We're surprised and happy that interest in coming to the Costa del Sol has shot up in our main source markets and we believe the increase will be even greater this week, following the announcement of the opening up of frontiers with the EU on 21 June," she said.
Meanwhile Norwegian has announced this week that it is to resume flying to the Costa del Sol this summer. From 1 July routes between Malaga and Oslo, Copenhagen and Stockholm will start to operate, opening the doors wider for tourists from Scandinavian countries.
