  • The Nerja cave foundation has included 150,000 euros in its 2020 budget towards the cultural project

Nerja town hall will debate the construction of a new library at its next full council meeting.

The land for the new project currently belongs to the town's José del Peso Blanco foundation and is located next to the Salvador church on Calle Iglesia, by the Balcón de Europa.

The 800-metre-square plot identified for the library will allow for an installation three times bigger than the existing library which is located near the market and next to Nuestra Señora de la Angustias chapel.

Along with a book and video lending service, internet access and the reading club, the new library will also have space for additional activities.

Nerja's mayor, José Alberto Armijo, met with representatives of the José del Peso Blanco foundation last November to discuss the acquisition of the land. The foundation welcomed the plan for a new library as they consider it to be "compatible with their cultural objectives".

The Nerja cave foundation will also be collaborating financially in the project and as such has included 150,000 euros in its 2020 budget. In total it has committed 200,000 euros to the new library.
