Town halls along the Axarquía coast have intensified controls on vehicles during Holy Week after a number of residents in towns including Torrox and Nerja reported seeing neighbours in their holiday homes.
Anyone caught failing to comply with the lockdown could face up to a 30,000 euro fine or an 18-month prison sentence.
Members of the military emergency unit, UME, were in the area on Thursday to help the police with the controls
