The mayor of Marbella, Ángeles Muñoz, has registered as a volunteer with the Costa del Sol hospital. She is a qualified doctor but has not been practising since 1995, while following her political career. The mayor, who has not announced this herself, began the process to offer her services as a doctor again after learning that there is a nationwide shortage to cope with the coronavirus crisis.

The mayor is also about to sign an order for 34 million euros from the 2019 budget surplus to be made available towards the social and economic emergency generated by the crisis. This was supposed to have been considered at an extraordinary council meeting but that had to be cancelled when the state of alarm was announced and under these circumstances the mayor has the power to confirm the motion alone.

Marbella town hall currently has an accumulated surplus of 70 million euros, and according to the regulations 34 million is the maximum that can be withdrawn and used.
