The regional Health ministry has confirmed another significant increase in the number of coronavirus cases in Malaga province, rising from 665 positive cases on Tuesday to 819 on Wednesday. This increase of 154 in 24 hours, even higher than the previous day's 145 new cases, confirming the turn in trend after the increase in cases appeared to have slowed down over the weekend.
This new growth is also reflected across the region, with 539 new cases in a day, raising the figure to 3,010. Similarly, the number of deaths has had a significant rise, with 26 more between Tuesday and Wednesday (113 in total).
In Malaga province 14 more deaths realted to Covid-19 were reported on Wednesday, taking the total up to 40, according to the regional Health authority.
On the positive side, however, 89 patients have been discharged from hospital in Malaga province and 48 have recovered. In Andalucía, 194 have been sent home from hospital and 71 cured.
Meanwhile the number of cases in Spain continues to soar with 47,610 cases counted and 3,434 deaths, more fatalities now than in China.
"We are gradually approaching the peak of transmission," said government official Fernando Simón on Wednesday.
