  • The second International Mural Competition involves 10 artists taking to the streets in search of 10,000 euros

The second International Mural Competition which is drawing to a close in Estepona, has brought together ten lucky selected artists to paint murals in the resort over a ten period.

The winner will receive 10,000 euros in prize money with 5,000 euros on offer for the runner-up. All of the ten artists, who were selected from 104 proposals from all over the world, will receive 1,000 euros for expenses. Entries came from a range of different countries including Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Argentina, Mexico, Italy and Uruguay.

This is the second time the town hall has held the competition to form its Ruta de Murales Artísticos, a route linking striking murals on buildings. The first competition was held in 2012 with the aim of creating an outdoor museum and bringing culture to the surrounding areas. After the ten artists complete their works, the Ruta de Murales Artísticos will have a total of 60 murals on display for visitors and locals to enjoy.

The artists have all lived and eaten together during the competition when they have not been painting from cranes several metres of the ground.

Estepona's Ruta de los Murales (mural tour) will have a total of 60 works displayed on building all over the town by the end of the competition that has been under way this week
