Marbella council will charge 157,343 euros for the Starlite festival to use the Nagüeles quarry this year. Following its approval, the festival organisers now need sign off from the town planning and construction departments, as well as from Civil Protection, the local police and the fire department.

The nighttime live music festival takes place throughout July and August. This year the line up will include Lionel Richie, Bonnie Tyler and Sara Baras, among many other artists. The event first started back in 2012.

Councillors, however, have expressed concern that Marbella's name no longer appears. One said, "I am not hiding the fact that we would like Marbella to appear in the [festival's] advertising," while also stressing that the two names are already "indelibly linked".
