Directors at the Plaza Mayor shopping centre and Bahía Azul retail park (where Ikea is located) have committed to creating a new exit for vehicles on the northern side of the vast complex.
With large traffic jams forming around the main entrance on Avenida Montserrat Caballé, plans have been set in motion to widen Calle Plácido Domingo (next to McDonald's) and connect it to the MA-21, which runs alongside the airport at the end of the runway. This would mean that traffic for the Bahía Azul retail park could be kept separate from the now increased traffic from Plaza Mayor.
The directors met with city hall's councillor for Mobility, Raúl López, and it was agreed that this would be a "simple" modification which could start "almost immediately".
A temporary new exit would first be built, before later being made into a definitive structure.
