The Local Police in Malaga have started to crack down on the illegal use of electric scooters around the city.

Police fined one user 1,000 euros at an alcohol checkpoint set up next to Atarazanas market on Christmas Eve after they were found to be three times over the limit.

This was one of the first fines dished out for this offence but comes in addition to a number of arrests made of users riding models known as 'scooter-choppers', which are larger and faster than those permitted on public roads.
