Rincón de la Victoria's tourism councillor Antonio José Martín announced on Tuesday that visitor numbers to the town's Cueva del Tesoro cave doubled in 2019 from the previous year. 63,510 people visited the natural heritage site this year compared with 37,314 in 2018.
The town hall puts the success down to a strong marketing campaign. While the majority of visitors were Spanish, the cave registered a number of British, French, Italian, German and Russian tourists who were able to make use of audio guides in different languages.
The mayor, Francisco Salado, was delighted with the figures, saying "We're going to keep boosting these numbers, and promoting this key part of our cultural heritage, which will help to consolidate us as a cultural and tourist destinantion."
