"You're not alone, don't let anyone else decide for you. Against abuse, zero tolerance." These were the last words of the institutional manifesto published by Marbella town hall to mark International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

The message was read out during the naming of a roundabout in Las Albarizas after Ana Orantes, who was murdered by her ex-husband in 1997 after denouncing domestic abuse on a television programme.

The unveiling of the plaque was presided over by deputy mayor, Félix Romero, along with councillors from all the political groups in the town hall, who kept a minute's silence.

"She was a brave woman, who became a symbol for many silenced victims and marked a turning point in social and judicial perception of this social problem," said the deputy mayor.
