The department for Historical Heritage at Mijas town hall has made a series of new discoveries during its continuing excavation work at the Cortijo de Acebedo archaeological site.
The town's mayor, Josele González, confirmed the discovery of "several rooms that formed part of a large building". These, he said, "will allow us to confirm what type of building it was, its function and chronology". This find is beside that of a bathhouse where previous excavations showed the existence of a cold water swimming pool and some latrines.
These new findings "highlight the archaeological importance of this site, not only for Mijas, but for the province," said González, who has committed to further research on the site.
