The project to recover the Roman ruins around Duquesa castle in Manilva has entered its second stage - drawing up a plan to turn the archaeological site into a visitor attraction. In the first phase, a specialist heritage company carried out cleaning at the site and topographical plans.

Now the local council and the Diputación provincial authority are supporting taking the project a step further. The plans will need to include closing off the site and laying out walkways with information panels for visitors.

The Roman remains have listed status and are made up of a burial place, villa, baths and salted-fish factory dating from the first century to the fifth century. Tender requests to draw up a plan should go out shortly.
