  • The acting minister and the president of Andalucía presided over the SUR dinner

Following a tradition that goes back more than two decades, SUR, SUR in English and Unicaja Banco hosted a formal dinner on Monday night to bring together around 150 key players in the Andalusian tourist industry. This year's event, presided over by the acting Spanish minister for Tourism, Reyes Maroto, and the president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, was held at The Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn in central London.

Among the guests were the mayors of the main Costa del Sol tourist destinations, including Malaga, Marbella, Torremolinos, Benalmádena, Fuengirola, Mijas, Nerja, Benahavís, Torrox and Rincón; the president and vice-president of the provincial government, Francisco Salado and Juan Carlos Maldonado; the executive director of the World Tourism Organisation, Manuel Butler, former British ambassador to Spain, Simon Manley; the president of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in the UK, Eduardo Barrachina; as well as representatives of hoteliers and business owners on the Costa del Sol.

The significance of the tourism industry for Andalucía as well as Brexit were recurring themes in the speeches made by the authorities and SUR and Unicaja representatives.
