The Public Works ministry of the Junte de Andalucía regional government has set aside one million euros for improvement works on the A-397 road which connects San Pedro Alcántara and Ronda - one of the main arteries between the Serranía de Ronda and the Costa del Sol.
The primary objective of this project announced by regional minister Marifrán Carazo is to continue with works that had begun previously but never finished due to lack of funds.
They focus primarily on resurfacing work, especially on stretches of the road which see a high number of accidents. The regional government, though, has not yet specified which stretches. What is known is that temporary traffic lights will be installed to facilitate the work.
In the long term, the Junta has also been looking into the possibility of creating a third climbing lanes, with Carazo saying that a project of this kind was in the pipeline.
