The new 100-shop luxury outlet mall at Plaza Mayor, near Malaga Airport, is set to open on 22 October, its owners have said.

The extension to Plaza Mayor will specialise in high-end discounted goods and has been developed by UK-based specialist in outlet malls, McArthurGlen.

This will be the firm's first outlet mall in Spain and the biggest of its type in the south of the country. Among the brands that will be represented in the shops will be Calvin Klein, Karl Lagerfeld, Lacoste, Tommy Hilfiger and Sandro.

Sonae Sierra, owners of Plaza Mayor have highlighted the "impressive quality" of the extension to their existing centre that has been designed to reflect traditional Andalusian architecture.

Despite the announcements, the opening date is not set in stone as it depends on the speed of completing improvements to the access routes to the Plaza Mayor complex. Currently two lanes are being added to the westbound carriageway of the adjacent MA-20 motorway. This was a condition laid down by Malaga city council for planning permission.

Around 100 staff members are being sought for the stores due to open there.
