Axarquía mayors warn of not enough firefighters

  • Crews have taken up to 45 minutes to get to recent fires

Mayors of five villages in the upper Axarquía have criticised Malaga's Diputación for the lack of fire fighters in the area.

Following a number of recent fires which Nerja and Vélez-Málaga crews have taken up to 45 minutes to get to, the mayors have called for fire stations to open in Cómpeta and Puente don Manuel.

Manuel Marmolejo, who is responsible for fire brigades at the Diputación has said it is "an absolute priority" for next year.
