It was back in 1999 when Roy Peires, president and founder of CLC World Resorts & Hotels, decided to find a way to give something back to the local community.

His project took the form of a foundation, then called The Smile Foundation which now operates under the name Fundación CLC World

The main objective of the foundation is to offer maximum support to groups and individuals in need on the Costa del Sol and Tenerife, two destinations where the firm offers tourist accommodation in Spain.

The foundation's work is made possible through donations and contributions from partners, customers and employees of CLC World.

The organisation will be celebrating its 20th anniversary with a gala event this Friday September 13th at Safari restaurant, located at CLC's Costa del Sol resort.

The event will bring together friends and associates from across the province of Malaga, including local authorities, media, sponsors and collaborators, as well as company representatives and the foundation's ambassadors and volunteers.

"Over 20 years Fundación CLC World has made great strides with a single objective: to improve the quality of life for those who need it most," said the foundation's president, Juan Miguel Marcos.

"We maintain a close collaboration with different social agents through the donation of food, furniture, clothing, computer equipment and other goods, as well as financial contributions."

The charity organisations helped by the foundation include Los Ángeles Malagueños de la Noche, Cudeca, Ronald McDonald House, Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), Fundatul, the Association of Relatives and People with Mental Illness of the Costa del Sol (AFESOL) and the Association of Relatives of Alzheimer's Patients of Mijas, among others.

The greatest commitment of Fundación CLC World has been the construction of the F. Cruz Dias-ADIMI Centre in Mijas. "This is our most ambitious social work, since most of its financing was possible thanks to the contribution of 1.6 million euros (direct and indirect costs)," said Marcos.
