Early-morning revellers in Puerto Banús were shocked to witness Local Police shooting at a stolen car whose occupants were trying to get away on Thursday, 15 August.

The incident started at 6.30am when it was spotted skidding at a roundabout and was stopped on Avenida Julio Iglesias.

The driver then accelerated away, trying to run over a police officer.

A chase then began along the A-7 motorway eastbound.

Police were almost able to stop the car in the Rio Real area but it kept going at high speed.

The vehicle finally crashed after losing control on the bends near La Cala de Mijas and the occupants fled.

Police have forensically examined the car to try and identify its occupants.
