Visitors and residents in Nerja may have seen fans of the 1980s cult Spanish children's TV series, Verano Azul, flock to Plaza del Cangrejo on Wednesday and Thursday.

This is because the town hall was showing six of the 19 episodes on a giant screen in the square, to mark 40 years since the programme was filmed in Nerja.

Filming took place on Burriana beach, the Balcón de Europa and Cala Chica, among other locations, between August 1979 and December 1980, and it was first aired in October 1981.

In May, a sculpture of Chanquete, one of the leading characters, was erected on the Balcón and RTVE, Spain's public TV channel, has been showing a digitally remastered version of the show throughout August.
