Works to build the extension of the Malaga Metro to the city centre continued last week after the discovery of an 11th-century Moorish settlement in front of El Corte Inglés threatened to derail the project.
With the on-site preservation of the ruins deemed incompatible with the metro project, the decision was subsequently taken to preserve just the most representative parts of what has been identified as the Moorish district of Al-Tabbanin, just outside the old city walls.
Last Thursday, 1 August, the works resumed, demolishing the vast majority of the ruins, except the parts which will later be removed and preserved as part of an exhibition at the future train station.
