The Environment and Beach department of Fuengirola council has once again set in motion an initiative designed to keep its seven kilometres of coastline in the best possible state.

The campaign, titled 'Playas Sin Colillas' (Beaches without cigarette butts), involves the distribution of 4,200 conical ashtrays, in which bathers can deposit their cigarette butts and other rubbish that mechanical beach sweepers can sometimes find difficult to filter out.

The ashtrays have been designed with a conical shape to make them easy to stick into the sand. A lid ensures that carrying the ashtrays is hygienic.
