A British man has been arrested on suspicion of raping a 19-year-old British woman during her holiday in Marbella.
Reports of the crime were made by the woman herself, who appeared at Hospital Costa del Sol, claiming that she had been the victim of sexual assault.
The alleged attack occurred during a night out drinking, when the woman, accompanied by her female friend, went out into town, having consumed a large quantity of alcohol.
It was in the streets of Marbella that the two women met a group of young British men, who later invited the pair to continue their party at an apartment belonging to one man from the group.
It was there that one of the men allegedly took advantage of the 19-year-old's inebriated state, following her into the bathroom and closing the door behind him.
The young woman recalls being raped by the British man, who, according to the 19-year-old's accusations, continued despite her asking him to stop. She claims that her drunken state was what inhibited her from screaming for help. The woman was later able to escape from the apartment.
Following the report made at Marbella's hospital, Local Police were immediately informed, and officers from the Family and Women department have since taken on the investigation.
Tracking down the accused proved a challenging task for police, due to the victim's limited ability to provide a detailed description of her attacker. Nevertheless, a young man with matching characteristics was eventually spotted and the arrest was made. The Briton has since been released on bail while the investigation is under way.
