  • The area between Malaga and the Río Vélez has been closed off after "unusually high levels" were found

The regional government, the Junta de Andalucía, has closed off an area between Malaga and the Río Vélez to the west of Torre del Mar to certain local clam catches (coquina, concha fina and chirla) after "unusually high levels" of E. coli were found to be present in tests carried out on 3 July.

Further tests were done on Wednesday to confirm the results.

The area, known as And 308, remains closed until further notice.
