July sales in Malaga city are under way, and tourists can now hunt for bargains on a Sunday.
The city centre joins resorts such as Benalmádena, Estepona, Fuengirola, Manilva, Marbella, Mijas, Nerja and Torremolinos in having permission for shops to trade on Sundays during the summer, due to the high numbers of tourists.
From now until 15 September, businesses in the old city centre, the port area and Cruz de Humilladero will enjoy the freedom to open on Sundays and public holidays, regardless of size or ties to franchise chains.
Fashion franchises are those most reaping the benefits, as independent shops measuring under 300 square metres had previously been permitted to open as and when business owners wished.
Big shopping centres such as El Corte Inglés, Larios Centro, Vialia, Málaga Plaza, Plaza Mayor, and La Rosaleda fall outside the area covered by the permission and will remain closed on Sundays.
