Refuse collectors in Mijas and Alhaurín el Grande begin "indefinite" strike action

  • The 127 workers are calling for the renegotiation of the collective bargaining agreement

Workers at refuse collection company Urbaser in Mijas and Alhaurín el Grande started an indefinite strike in the early hours of Thursday morning, refusing to collect rubbish over a dispute about working conditions.

The 127 workers (118 in Mijas and the rest in Alhaurín el Grande) are calling for the renegotiation of the collective bargaining agreement ('convenio colectivo') which expired on 31 December last year.

The workers are calling for a three per cent rise in salary, according to the trade union, CC OO. They also want the option to be able to work from Monday to Friday, with special shifts implemented for weekends and cover.
