Manilva Pride exceeds expectations and attracts more than 5,000 over three day

  • Scores of colourful floats joined the parade for the town's third and biggest pride event yet

Organisers are celebrating after more than 5,000 revellers turned out in force for Manilva's Pride event last weekend.

The family-friendly festival boasted around 31 musical performances, shows and a parade through the streets of Sabinillas and Duquesa on 14, 15 and 16 June.

Now in its third year, the event has grown from strength to strength and spanned over three days this year - compared to one day in its first year.

This year's event also featured for the first time the Manilva Pride Stars, a talent show that invited musicians, singers, dancers and group acts to perform at the event.

The winners were the Malaga based vogue dance group the "Butchqueens" who won the public vote and won over three judges. The group will represent Manilva Pride at Winter Pride in Maspalomas in November.

The event is the brainchild of Manilva bar owner Christian Lee Dunn and Dean Tyler Shelton, former councillor for the town council's Foreign Residents Department.

Christian, 34, who owns Duquesa Port's Mirror Mirror Lounge Bar, said: "I am completely blown away. The whole team worked tirelessly every day to allow such a fabulous weekend filled with absolute love!

"Around 5,000 attended the event, which surpassed the prediction and was also noted publicly as the 'best pride on the coast'. A slogan which could stick."
