Fast-acting Guardia Civil officers arrested a man at Malaga Airport in the early hours of last Thursday as he prepared to flee the country with his four children.
This followed a report filed to the Guardia in Nerja just hours earlier by a woman, 28, of Swedish nationality, who reported her husband for domestic abuse.
She told them that they had had an argument over a phone charger at their home in Almuñécar and that he then used it to try and strangle her.
She also said she feared he was going to try to leave the country with their children after discovering an email in which tickets to Sweden had been booked.
So as not to arouse suspicion, officers positioned themselves at the security area of the airport and when they spotted the man with four children they arrested him.
A judge in Torrox then released him pending an investigation into domestic abuse.
As a preventative measure, the man is not allowed within a 500-metre radius of his wife and children, or to have any contact with them.
