  • Vélez-Málaga town hall has signed a contract with a local aviation company who say most of the trainee pilots are expected to be international

Vélez-Málaga mayor Antonio Ferrer along with councillor María Santana, signed a contract with the company Axarquía Aviation Park on Tuesday which paves the way for a flight school in the Axarquía.

The town hall sold a plot of land at the Parque Tecnoalimentario in Trapiche for 419,793 euros, with options for the company to purchase more land in the future. The project will comprise an academy and residence and a "pioneering" flight simulator is also set to be installed by the end of this year.

Director General of Aerodynamics Málaga Juan Manuel Martín said on Tuesday that he believes the majority of trainee pilots who will use the accommodation will be "international," adding that the "communications, services and climate" of the Axarquía are "unbeatable".
